Common carriers include every person and corporation providing transportation
for compensation to or for the public or any portion of the public, except as
otherwise provided in the Public Utilities Act. Everyone who offers to the
public to carry persons, property, or messages, excepting only telegraph
messages, is a common carrier of whatever he or she offers to carry.
Included among the many types of common carriers are:
Railroad corporations, including street railroad corporations Airlines Mass transit authorities - Buses Taxicabs Certain vessels engaged in the transportation of people on the high seas between points within Nevada or on the inland waters within Nevada. Passenger stage corporations operating within Nevada Highway common carriers operating within Nevada Cement carriers operating within Nevada Escalators Elevators.
A carrier of persons for reward must give to passengers all usual and
reasonable accommodations, must treat them with civility, and must give them
reasonable attention. A carrier of persons for reward must use the utmost
care and diligence for their safe carriage, must provide everything necessary
for that purpose, and must exercise to that end a reasonable degree of skill.
The duty to use the utmost care and diligence is equivalent to the "highest
degree" of care.
