Most people enjoy amusement parks and traveling carnivals. The thrill of
fast rides and loop-the-loops offer a temporary escape from everyday life.
Now days, amusement rides range widely in terms of height, speed, size,
intensity, g-forces, and intended audience. The riders range in terms of
age, height, weight, mental ability, developmental maturity, and their
ability to understand mechanical cause-and-effect. All of these various
combinations and permutations contribute to the excitement and thrill of the
rides. They also combine to create very real dangers for certain groups of
people -- most notably small children. In addition, these complex rides also
offer mechanical hazards that can, and do, hurt the riders.
Did you know that only regulated amusement parks and carnivals are required
to report injuries. Therefore, it is impossible to tell whether Nevada's
theme parks are as safe as those in Texas. You can clearly see the dangers
in allowing amusement parks and carnivals to police their own accidents.
They conceal the safety ratings and accident information. This important
information does not get out to you, the consumer, so that you can make
informed decisions about which amusement parks or carnivals are safe for you,
your families, and friends.
